Title
Urban Beekeeping Workshop
Description

Whether you decide to keep bees for yourself, volunteer to help with the Metro Parks beehives or simply want to find out more about our natural environment, this workshop is suitable for both beginners and those with beekeeping experience. Learn about the science and importance of beekeeping, study the inside of a hive and how to start a hive of your own during this one-day workshop.

Although this workshop is for adults, high school students are welcome to attend. Please note that this is a lecture-style workshop and participants MUST register in advance due to limited space. Instructors are BeeBusters Mike and Jody Croley Jones, local urban beekeepers with six years experience with their own apiaries. We will be learning about:
· the history of bees and what 'products' are usable from the hive

· the science of the hive: anatomy, biology, the hive caste system and diseases of the hive

Discover how to get started in beekeeping
· legal issues, basic equipment needs and resources

· Hive Management and where to go for help.

Once you complete the class you will be ready to start your own beekeeping experience.

Jody and Mike are also are actively working with the Columbus Metro Parks to bring bees into the Parks.
